What’s the deal with CBD? Short for Cannabidiol, CBD is a naturally occurring compound found in the cannabis plant. While cannabis is widely known for its psychoactive properties (owing to another famous compound, THC), CBD itself is not known to have any intoxicating effects. In recent years, clinical research on CBD has shown encouraging results in the cannabinoid’s potential effectiveness in managing chronic pain, inflammation, anxiety, and insomnia. (While these results are promising, it’s important to note that there is not yet enough conclusive evidence to determine the health benefits of CBD, and as with anything else, you should consult your doctor before trying it.)
Due to CBD’s increasing popularity, it is available to purchase and try in a variety of forms, from oils to foods to sparkling waters. You’re also likely to see it pop up on bar and restaurant menus, as baristas and bartenders are channeling their creativity into concocting CBD-infused beverages. Depending on the type of CBD ingredients used, the flavor will range from fairly neutral to green and herbal. When enjoying a CBD-infused beverage, you can anticipate an easy, relaxed feeling.
At a recent event at our Somers Point Bar, our in-house mixologist Megan Stote crafted three unique (and delicious!) CBD-infused cocktail recipes. One of the most popular cocktails was the Blue CBDream, and I’ve included the recipe here so you can sample this tasty and vibrant cocktail at home.
Blue CBDream
- 1 oz Strawberry Moonshine
- 1 oz Blue Curaçao
- 0.5 oz Watermelon Schanpps
- Juice from half a lime
- Kaló Strawberry Watermelon Hemp Infused Seltzer
- Fresh strawberry and watermelon (garnish)
Fill a rocks glass with ice. Combine Moonshine, Blue Curaçao, Schnapps, and lime juice in a shaker with ice. Shake and pour into the glass. Top with Kaló Seltzer, garnish with fresh strawberry and watermelon, and enjoy!
