Local photographer, John Loreaux was born and raised in Somers Point. He discovered his love of photography early in life when his highschool friend let him borrow his 35 millimeter film camera for the weekend. A few sunrise pictures later, John was hooked on photography.
John went on to take several photography courses, attended seminars, and never left home without his camera.
After a 10 year lull, John picked up the camera again only to be inspired all over again by the introduction of digital photography. Since then, John has gone on to shoot countless beautiful landscapes, several weddings, and many meaningful events.
John’s love of photography combined with his deep appreciation for South Jersey has resulted in breathtaking images of local landscape.
“Landscape was my first love. Being from the Jersey Shore, I just love the beauty of our area. I’ve lived here all my life and I never take it for granted.”
Recently, John has discovered a new niche in the South Jersey music scene. He began snapping shots of the artists performing at the Somers Point Beach concert series and has since become the official volunteer photographer for the annual series.
Combining his love for music and photography, this became a new passion for John. Capturing the lighting, the stage, and the movement of a performing artist is a welcome challenge for John.
“It’s so intimate to be that close to the performers and capture the magic of it all,” explains John.
More than landscapes and music combined, John Loreaux cherishes the opportunities that he has had to photograph his children and family. From sports games to his son’s graduation from military boot camp, John’s love for capturing a moment has been a gift that keeps on giving.
John Loreaux has loved photography since he was a teenager. Now at 65 years old, he continues to explore new and exciting opportunities to capture the magic through his camera.
