Diabetes Training Camp Comes to Margate

If you live with the challenges of type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes, there is local program that is designed specifically to help you.  Diabetes Training Camp is hosting a 3-day Type 2 Boot Camp program from March 20th – March 22nd at the Milton and Betty Katz JCC in Margate, NJ. Attendees will learn how to take control of their diabetes and build a sustainable plan to live the life they want to live.

Led by SHORE Endocrinologist Dr. Matthew Corcoran, the program is staffed by diabetes experts from all over the country.  The weekend includes education on clinical diabetes, nutrition, mental skills strategies and fitness training.  Dr. Corcoran is one of the leading clinicians in diabetes care, exercise and fitness in the nation.  He has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association as a “Diabetes All-Star” and for the past 13 years has run life-changing camps and programs for people living with diabetes.

“Too often people living with diabetes are told to live a healthier life style and start exercising.  It can be overwhelming, confusing and frustrating knowing where and how to start, says Dr. Corcoran.  We’re here to help!  And, in addition to learning how to make small changes for big impact, campers will be surrounded by others who get it, and are going through similar challenges.”

At Diabetes Training Camp Type 2 Boot Camp, attendees will focus on the opportunity for health, longevity and success as they work side by side with experts in diabetes management, many of whom live with diabetes. Attendees learn from clinical specialists, an exercise physiologist, registered dieticians and CDEs (Certified Diabetes Educators), a mental skills coach to help work toward and meet your goals, and professional fitness trainers. Workouts will be tailored to meet the needs of each individual attendee from beginner to advanced.  The camp experts will meet attendees where they currently are and help attendees get to where they want to be.  Strategies to help manage diabetes through exercise and healthy lifestyle will be taught and all attendees will have the opportunity to share and learn during educational lectures and in the fitness room.

Together, attendees will build strategies and a sustainable long-term plan to achieve a healthy lifestyle focusing on solutions for overcoming obstacles and barriers on the pathway to success.

Mandy Covert, former Diabetes Training Camp Type 2 Boot Camp attendee said, “DTC Type 2 Boot Camp was an amazing experience. It opened my eyes to so many things.  Most importantly, I learned that I wasn’t the only one confused about exercising, how to use my medications, on why I was diagnosed with T2, and how to get support from my family and friends.  I went by myself, but quickly became part of a family and was able to just be ‘myself’ for a few days.”

Each day will include a variety of fitness sessions including water aerobics, spin classes, general fitness and yoga, community bonding time, multiple break-out sessions and lectures, meals and counseling. Attendees will have the opportunity to choose what sessions they are most interested in.

The 3-day program is for people living with Type 2 or pre-diabetes.  It kicks off with a 7am breakfast on Friday, March 20th and runs Friday, Sat and Sunday from 7am – 5pm.  Pre-registration is required.  You can register at www.diabetestrainingcamp.com .  Included in your registration fee of $150 includes breakfast and lunch all three days, all educational lectures and all activities.  For attendees coming from out of town, there is a reduced rate available through the Diabetes Training Camp website.
