If your kids are out of school and already bored with going to the beach, have no fear. Here is a list of ten fun foodie things for you to do this summer with the kids. They are guaranteed to be fun for both kids and adults!
Go to a pick your own farm. We are past strawberry picking season, but it’s prime time for picking blueberries and cherries. Kids love picking their own fruits and veggies. It’s fun for them to come up with creative ways to use them in recipes. To find pick your own farms go to .
Visit a farmers market. On almost any day of the week you can find a great local farmers market to visit and many have children’s activities such as face painting or other entertainment. Some of my favorites are Ocean City on Wednesdays, Margate on Thursdays, Ventnor on Fridays and Brigantine on Saturdays.
Bake for a cause. Help your kids bake brownies or cookies and sell them to benefit local charities. Have the kids choose which charities to donate to so that they feel empowered. My kids are participating in Our Children Making Change over the summer, a fantastic organization that helps children get involved with philanthropy at a young age.
Visit a food truck festival. Food truck festivals are so fun because you can sample a variety of different foods and drinks. Truckerton Food Truck & Brew Fest at the Tuckerton Seaport is one of my favorites and is coming up on August 12th & 13th.
Go on a picnic paddle. The Jersey Shore is ideal for kayaking and canoeing. Pack a picnic lunch and head out on the water. Some of our favorite spots are Corson’s Inlet and Egg Harbor River.
Make popsicles. Don’t have popsicle molds? Get them immediately! With an abundance of fresh fruits available, the possibilities are endless. My kids love coming up with new frozen treat recipes.
Sign your child up for a cooking class. There are several spots around the Jersey shore for kids to take cooking classes. Check out the offerings at Happy Heart Corner. You little chefs will love learning new recipes.
Grow your own. If starting from seeds isn’t your thing, visit a garden center and pick up some tomato plants and herbs. Plant them in containers and kids will love watching them grow. Besides tomatoes, we love growing peppers and cucumbers.
Go crabbing. Rent a boat for a day and go catch some crabs! Lay out a tablecloth outside when you get home and enjoy a crabfest!
Find a new ice cream place. What kid doesn’t love ice cream? My kids would happily eat it every single day. New places are always popping up. Sweet Charlie’s just opened on the boardwalk in Ocean City. Kids love watching the ice cream rolling process.
