Jah’s Creation Organic Farm: Bringing the Farm to Your Door

By Georgina Hand

This year Jah’s Creation Organic Farm in Egg Harbor Township celebrates 10 years of community supported agriculture and 20 years in the organic industry. “We currently farm 5 tracts of land, between EHT and Mays Landing, and have 12 acres in certified organic production,” said owner Matthew Bruckler.

Matthew runs the farm with his wife Linda, his mother Phyllis Pitt helps with the farmers markets, runs errands and helps with the office work. His son Benjamin Moses, helps in the fields, greenhouses and packing house.

I spent my life in the agriculture industry working for my family,” said Matthew. “Many years ago I was fortunate enough to spend a considerable amount of my time at the farm of a Rastafari elder by the name “Ibo” in the wonderful hills of Barbados, West Indies.”Organic produce has gained popularity as people seek out a more natural, health conscious diet. Organic vegetables are grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides, which means they are safer to eat and better for the environment, they also taste better and are richer in nutrients.

Community supported agriculture (CSA) allows a family to buy a share of a farm’s produce for a season. Jah’s Creation Organic Farm delivers a box of fresh organic produce every week of the season directly to the door of its members. “CSA is Crop Share, Buyers Club which gives the community a direct access to a farm’s bounty and the farmer access to “seed money” for the season, while securing a market for the crop being grown. It is a shared risk between the farmer and the community,” explained Matthew. “We deliver to our CSA member’s homes each week from Memorial Day through Labor Day.”

Jah’s Creation organic produce is also available outside of the CSA. “Our retail partners are Bonterra Market, Green Street Market, Pangaea Naturals, Pamela’s Health & Harmony, JR’s Fresh Market, & BF Mazzeo. Other Community Partners are Greens & Grains, Enlightened Solutions, and we have relations with numerous other food operations throughout Southern NJ.”

Buying into a CSA is investing into your family’s health, a local farm and the local economy. To join Jah’s Creation’s CSA is just $24 per week which is $384 for the 16 week season. Only 25 CSA spaces remain for the 2017 season and are sold on a first come/ first serve basis.
