Shore Local Talent: Shaun LaBoy

            By Lindsay Kirkland

Shaun LaBoy is a talented guitarist and vocalist from Somers Point. You may have seen him play at the Tuckahoe Inn, Ventnor Coffee or perhaps Fitzpatrick’s Deli & Steakhouse on Thursday nights in the summer.

This hard working musician plays at different venues throughout Atlantic and Cape May County seven nights a week, all while busing tables five days a week at Fitzpatrick’s Deli & Steakhouse. He plays classic rock covers mostly, but he also writes his own music and lyrics and has created some very notable originals. Shaun wrote “Be Free” four years ago. “It is mostly about myself trying to get away from everything and everyone around me; the one thing I want to do is just walk away from it and have more of a peaceful life from the stressful world we live in. That’s what ‘Be Free’ means to me,” explains Shaun.  He has four more originals: “Horizon”, “It’s up to you”, “Lifetime”, and ”Best of my Day.”

Shaun began singing when he was only three years old. He recounts singing one of his mom’s favorites, a Whitney Houston song, at that young age and that was when everyone noticed Shaun’s gift for singing. Shaun’s mom is a Gospel singer and she continues to be his inspiration. His stepdad, Stephen Vogt is also a musician, a drummer, and has had a huge influence on him. Last Friday,Shaun and his stepdad played at the Tuckahoe Inn together .  Shaun attended Mainland Regional High School and participated in Choir during his time there.  He is a 2013 graduate and has been performing ever since.
